The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will hold a public meeting Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. to provide an update on the status of the Lake Vermilion walleye population, answer questions and gather input on the future of the Lake Vermilion walleye regulation. The meeting will be at the DNR area office, 650 Highway 169, Tower.
For those who are unable to attend the meeting, public comments will be accepted at the DNR Central Office, 500 Lafayette Road., St. Paul, on Sept. 28, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Comments may also be sent to Jeff Eibler, acting area fisheries supervisor, 650 Highway 169, Tower, Minn. 55790 or emailed tojeff.eibler@state.mn.us.
Lake Vermilion walleyes have been protected with a slot limit since 2006. The special regulation requires the immediate release of all walleye between 17 and 26 inches. One walleye more than 26 inches is allowed in a possession limit of four. The current walleye regulation may be modified, extended or dropped.
The deadline for comments on the Lake Vermilion special walleye regulation is Oct. 14.
